In a meeting convened by the Directorate of Health and Services, the members of the Indian Medical Associations Maharashtra chapter pointed out "impractical amendments" made in the nursing home registration rules.

On Tuesday, the Directorate of Health and Services organized a meeting with IMA regarding the clinical establishment act and the amended Bombay Nursing Home Act. Around 144 IMA doctors across Maharashtra  attended the meeting.

The association informed health officials in the meeting that area-based compulsion, certified nursing staff, higher registration fees, and other provisions are practically impossible to implement. They also stated that health officials need to come up with alternative solutions to the challenges created by the new amendments; otherwise, nearly 80% of hospitals will be forced to close due to their inability to meet the rules.

Dr. Shiv Kumar Utture revealed that in the meeting, the health officials and IMA discussed six agenda items. He revealed that health officials agreed to make changes to three points and noted that the same had been conveyed by DHS to the government. He noted that issues like major hikes in registration fees and the appointment of certified nursing staff were also discussed in the meeting. He added that the association proposed that the government train existing nurses under a skill development initiative.
